I want to see both the land animals and do some diving during my visit to Galapagos. Is this possible ?
OR
I want to travel to Galapagos with a non-diver but I want to do some diving while I am there. Is this possible ?
This is possible but it is much harder to do this now because the Galapagos National Park no longer allows naturalist yachts to offer diving on their cruises or dive yachts to visit land areas within the national park. The dive yachts all go to the islands of Darwin/Wolf. These islands are probably the two best dive sites in the world but they are very far to the North (120 miles from the nearest other island) and no land excursions have ever been allowed there. It takes approximately 15 - 20 hours of open ocean travel each way and the dive yachts will spend at 3 days up there. Therefore Darwin/Wolf dive trips never have had very many land excursions and they are not appropriate for non-divers.
Can I do a naturalist trip either before or after a dive trip so I can see both ? Yes but it is a lot easier said than done. Different yachts are in port on different days of the week and there are 2 airports in Galapagos. Therefore you must match the 2 yachts up with both the day of the week and the port of embarkment. All live aboard dive trips are 7 nights long. Many but not all naturalist trips are 7 nights long. Therefore it could require as many as 14 days in Galapagos in order to complete two tours. All this being said, if you are interested in doing this kind of tour, we would be happy see if I can find anything for you.
I would like to combine some diving with some land excursion but I don't want to sign up for a designated dive trip. Is that possible ? As discussed earlier, Galapagos dive trips all go to the islands of Darwin and Wolf. Naturalist trips offer 2 land visits per day plus snorkeling. The Galapagos National Park no longer allows diving on naturalist trips or land visits on dive trips. However there are 2 ways to do this. They are:
1. After a naturalist trip, it is possible to extend your stay in Galapagos, sleep in a hotel and go out with one of the local dive operators. NOTE - you will NOT be diving at Darwin and Wolf.
2. A few of the naturalist yachts will "sub" out a few days of diving to one of the local dive operators. There is always an additional fee for this, diving is limited to the days where the yacht is near one of the towns, there is usually a minimum number of people required to do this and you will have to skip the land excursions on the dive days. NOTE - you will NOT be diving at Darwin and Wolf.
GALAPAGOS ADVENTURES CAN ASSIST YOU WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE TYPES OF TOURS
