In order to safeguard the health of its citizens and visitors, the Ecuadorian government has decided to implement new changes for entry to the country as well as entry to the Galapagos Islands.

The rules apply from the first minute of Wednesday December 1st 2021. They are as follows:

All travelers over 16 years of age entering Ecuador or the Galapagos Islands must present:

1. A complete COVID-19 vaccination card, with at least 14 days validity.

2. A negative PCR test result taken up to 72 hours prior to departure to Ecuador.  Antigen tests are not accepted for entry.

To be clear: unvaccinated travelers over 16 will not be able to enter either Ecuador or the Galapagos Islands.

Children between 2 and under 16 must present:

1. A negative PCR test result taken up to 72 hours prior to departure to Ecuador.

All travelers must present the digital Traveler's Health Declaration when boarding the plane for their journey to Ecuador. The form can be filled out online using the following link: https://bit.ly/3GfitSp. A printed version can also be filled out before or upon arrival.

Notes for Galapagos entry:  When entering the Galapagos, travelers can show the same international certificate used to enter Ecuador, as long as it has 72 hours validity, or one from an authorized Ecuadorian laboratory.  Please get in touch with your Destination Expert for assistance.

Travelers from Africa

Entry to Ecuador is prohibited for travelers who started their journeys in or transited through the following countries: South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Eswatini (Swaziland) and Namibia.

The CDC requires all passengers who board international flights to the US to show a negative covid test within 3 days of boarding the flight.  There are now verified labs for Covid testing open at BOTH of the Ecuadorian international airports (in Quito and Guayaquil) for ANTIGEN testing.  In Quito a lab called VIP Medical and is open 24/7.  In Guayaquil a lab called VERIS and is open daily from 3:30PM to 11:00PM.  The cost of the test is $40 and results are sent electronically within 30 minutes.  Both cash or credit cards are accepted.
